This mask/face is presumed to be of Haitian origin as it was in the collection with other verified Haitian artifacts. It is hand carved from a solid block of wood with glass and stone eyes. The right eye is glass but the left eye is a carved black stone. It is very strange. The wood is very dense and heavy. Even though it is 7 1/2 inches tall, 4 3/4 inches wide and 3 inches thick it weighs 1.5 lbs. The piece is known to be 45 years old. The piece is in good condition with no visible breaks or chips. Natural drying cracks do appear on left eyebrow.
